Our story begins in 2023 when two friends (Michele Steckler and Kim Ridsdale) contemplated the idea of starting the new adventure of bee keeping. After researching, reading, and talking to a few seasoned beekeepers, we decided to purchase hives for the spring of 2024. We envisioned sunny days relaxing by the hives in a couple of chairs, sipping cold drinks, watching the bees come and go…but boy were we wrong!! Of course, bees are incredible natural superstars that create a product that is beneficial to humans in so many ways. But managing a hive involves a lot of patience, disappointment and hard work in the hot midsummer heat. Oh, and of course, we can’t forget the odd bee sting!
By early autumn, after many sweaty days, our hard work paid off. Our bees had created enough honey for their colonies to survive the approaching winter as well as a surprisingly generous amount for extracting and enjoying for ourselves!
With all the honey that we collected, and beeswax that we were able to salvage, we didn’t want any of the golden goodness to go to waste. It was time to get creative and take the next step in our adventure!
And that is when 'Honey and Hive' came to life!
